Trying to save this birch that has been treated poorly by the previous guy. He left a long stump to get infected and rot.

I cut the stump and trimmed the rot away, then painted it with limewash (it's quite warm today), we'll see in summer how it will cope.

If not, I'll have to fell it. It's leaning towards the road and we don't need it falling on some stupid BMW SUV.

Close-up of a big birch. It used to have two limbs. One has been cut off long ago, leaving a too long stump for the tree to deal with open to infection and rot. The bark has peeled away, revealing dead wood.
The whole tree, now with the stump and rot trimmed away. It's quite tall and weighed towards the nearby road.
Closer view of the cut, now painted white with limewash to protect it. Alas, the rot was going down under the bark quite a ways, not sure if it will be able to recover from that.

This is Betula pumila Swamp birch or Dwarf Birch it's a #wetland species here, growing in semi open areas among willows etc- they are shrubby/bush multi-stemmed plants, I haven't seen them more than a few metres tall, they might be able to get taller in places free of moose/cows/deer, but still not one of the big #tree #birch #BorealForest #Alberta #Canada #NativePlants #nature

The sun is hitting these leaves, backlighting one to a glowing bright green. The background is blurred, partly shady with more green leaves and light between them being reduced by the camera lens to many overlapping glowing green and light orbs, mostly around right centre of the image.
