In Lofoten today, and it's been a damp one. We've also had to shorten the stay because wind conditions are forecast to make tendering to and from the ship too dangerous later so we've only had a short time ashore. We got the free bus from the port to Leknes where there's very little to do or see so we just walked back to the port by a more scenic route. If we'd been able to see it.

Sakrisøy, one of the many fishing villages on the Lofoten Islands.
Most of the cottages (Rorbuer in Norwegian; temporary fishermen's houses) in this area are colored red or ochre yellow. Here on Sakrisøy, you actually only see the ochre yellow cottages and an occasional white one.
The color has to do with the price of raw materials and thus immediately indicated a financial status:
Red was a mix of cod liver oil and blood, copper instead of blood was used in the ochre yellow paint, and the white houses belonged to those who could afford zinc.
Today, many of these cottages are rented out to tourists.

There is 201 seconds of movement recorded in this photo. I dig long exposures man. If a photo were to capture souls, imagine the amount of souls I got in this one.

Seriously though, this stuff fascinates me. Photography has a lot to do with time, and time is.. well, time is really weird.

Anyway, let's go back to drinking morning coffee.

What a view! #Aurora over a launch pad in Norway's #Lofoten - with an #IsarAerospace rocket waiting for its maiden launch, potentially tomorrow: x.com/isaraerospace/status/190 (it would be the first orbital launch from European soil ... ever). Updates at isaraerospace.com/newsroom-fir and a long preview story in arstechnica.com/space/2025/03/
