Slightly SW of #Asheville, our #AQI numbers have gone way up, and the 2 windows I had open for an hour trying to bring down the #CO2 #IAQ numbers are now closed again due to smoke.

Really, some rain would be welcome. But just a little, controlled rain. Without lightning. Please.

I will say that every single article or news story about #wildfires needs to include a map, calling out where the fires are, their names, and current sizes.

Especially in an area like ours right now, where we have a dozen burning in at least 3 states, all impacting us and each other.

From NC’s Weather Authority on FB: Wow, this is the Table Rock Fire tonight as it moves along the NC/SC line in Transylvania County, NC. This is looking south towards South Carolina. The fire has grown to over 6,000 acres. Hundreds of firefighters are working to contain it. We’re hoping it won’t continue to spread into Transylvania County. There are evacuation orders in place for parts of Extreme southern Transylvania Co.

“As of 5:45 p.m., the Freedom Farm Road wildfire is improving with the fire now at 130 acres, 20% contained, and lines established around the entire perimeter. Air support helped with dropping retardant and water in the area, significantly aiding in containment.

Due to containment efforts by awesome firefighters and protective actions in place, the voluntary evacuation orders have been lifted for the Hayes Cove Road area. Crews will remain on scene to monitor the area.

We're up to 7 fires now in the area: 3 in Polk (longest-term) 1 each in Swain, Jackson, Haywood and Buncombe counties.

The winds here SW of #Asheville have dropped, and the smoke is now settling in. My outdoor sensor jumped from 4 to 29 for PM2.5

This may affect our plans to finally go for a hike tomorrow morning.

The #Wildfires at the NC/SC border in the western part of #NorthCarolina mostly continue unabated today. The 2 in the Green River Gorge region (very steep hillsides, doubtless littered with #Helene tree debris) are still 0% contained, and now combined at almost 6,000 acres burned.

Temps today will be in the 60'sF, with yet another red flag warning and gusts up to 30mph like yesterday, with low dew points.

No rain likely until the weekend, and not that high a chance even then. Smoke today will travel with the winds again, so we may all see it. Be safe, folks.

The smoke that had overtaken our area around noon today has moved elsewhere (at least for now) and we're back into decent #AQI according to PurpleAir. So is @firefly which is great, as we've been trading off the smoke for a couple of days.

Buncombe doesn't currently have fires, and wants people to stop calling the FD about the smoke. Polk does have the fires and isn't letting people know much about them.

We may get rain, but winds are still supposed to be in the 20's tomorrow. Reset, repeat.

No burning. Hope for (just enough) rain.

Good #Monday morning, #Asheville! After yesterday, definitely hoping for a calmer week, we're certainly getting a cooler start this morning, as the temps are still dropping (currently 39F here.)

A bit of a seesaw this week, as we reach 50 today, but 76 on Wednesday before dropping again after the rain expected on Thursday. It's that time of the year.
