For example, I hate love triangles, so the main society in my world is polyamorous. I like examining cultural norms by presenting alternatives, &amp; I present non-human lifeforms as more than scenery--important beings in their own right. My niche would be nature lovers &amp; those who like to think outside our boxes.</p>

It's not like I'm raking in buckets of cash from my books, for example. But it's always fun when I see that someone enjoyed what I wrote.</p>

However, I know others enjoy my kind of stories, so in other ways it's broad.</p><p>Honestly, I'm not sure having "as broad an appeal as possible" is a good thing. It's impossible to please everyone, and trying to do so makes stories so...generic. I'd rather write (and read) a somewhat niche story in a broader genre I enjoy.</p>
GaH Learner<p>21. Do you create for a certain niche or do you hope to have as broad an appeal as possible?</p><p>I write what appeals to me, to get these people out of my head and onto the page. I can't escape my brain. Of course the idea that it appeals to mainstream sounds nice and appealing and I can certainly see <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/HeraldPetrel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HeraldPetrel</span></a> as a series on a streaming service but I don't think it will happen. </p><p>I am happy to see that for those people who have read Herald Petrel it meant something. Perhaps because it creates a set of comfort characters that speak to people with <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/trauma" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>trauma</span></a> and <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/grief" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>grief</span></a> as a background, perhaps because it dares to have likable characters, perhaps because the dead don't pile up for no reason at all, I don't know. I just know that if one reader says that they found comfort in reading it, it means the whole effort was worth it. And some said so, so it is worth that many times.</p>

RS, Author, Novelist, Prosaist<p>This post is to announce to all those who knew about my web-novel <em>Mars Needed Women,</em> who may have boosted or linked to it, that I have <em>deleted the posts from Mastodon.</em> I am heavily into revising it for publication. To prevent 404ing, I've left only the jacket blurb post of March 1st. As best I can remember, that's the only link I gave out. I hope so. I'm tagging hashtags to which I posted links to the novel this one time to prevent confusion. You are welcome to PM me.</p><p><a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/pennedpossibilities" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pennedpossibilities</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/engenderedWriting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>engenderedWriting</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/writerscoffeeclub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>writerscoffeeclub</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/wordweavers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wordweavers</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/scribesandmakers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>scribesandmakers</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/writever" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>writever</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/writephant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>writephant</span></a> </p><p><strong>TL;DR</strong></p><p>The story was published daily in March 2024 as part of a <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/Writever" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Writever</span></a> challenge, and I completed all 31 chapters one a day using all 31 Women's Rights prompts, managing to complete the last chapter and post it only 20 minutes into April 1st. </p><p>The story was definitely beta, with a plot hole and janky science and a few character boo-boos, but I like the result. I have since greatly revised the story and added plenty of material. Writing content daily to fit it into a toot-length that worked out to 750-800 words max forced compromises. </p><p>I plan to publish the novel in book form. As such, I have deleted the original free-to-read version. When I've sold or published the novel, I'll be sure to inform all my followers.</p><p>If you were part way through the story, PM me.</p><p>For you that read it, and for those who favorited chapters, <strong>Thank you.</strong></p><p><a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/BoostingIsSharing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BoostingIsSharing</span></a> </p><p><a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/writer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>writer</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/author" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>author</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/sf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sf</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/writersOfMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>writersOfMastodon</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/writingCommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>writingCommunity</span></a></p>

I'm not sure if it comes through in my writing, but certainly in my worldview. Ex Machina is another one that really affected me. I'm surprised Ex Machina didn't have a stronger cultural impact than it did, because in my mind it's almost a perfect movie about AI and humanity's relationship to it.</p>

But more often, books and games have had an influence.</p>
GaH Learner<p>20. Is there a movie that inspires your creative work?</p><p>Fantasy: The Peter Jackson Tolkien movies, yes, all six of them. I loved the visuals. Also, ghastly as they looked and behaved, the movies made Orcs and Goblins people to me, horrible people, but still people with their own agendas.
