Day 25 cont ✋🥷

#Greens election corflutes have been #defaced with #swastikas and #Islamophobic slurs in what the party says is the “tip of the iceberg” of the #racism and #hate it is facing during the campaign.

The #NSW Greens senator, Mehreen Faruqi, and the Greens’ candidate in the inner-west Sydney seat of #Grayndler, Hannah Thomas, have had swastikas drawn on election posters in #Erskineville and #Stanmore respectively.”

If you're annoyed (frustrated) by the mainstream media's obsession with ReformUK, then Zoe Williams' comments will ring a bell:

'there has always been a tendency to write off the progressive vote as random, or outlying & rightwing insurgency as indicative of some fundamental truth'.... we need a news media that takes the Greens seriously (or at least as seriously as they take ReformUK).

(I'm sure Williams recognises the Guardian isn't much better)

@ChrisMayLA6 The latter have had two significant effects. The first is to establish the #greens #liberaldemocrats and successive #radcalright groups as competitive in some contexts. The second has been to alter the balance of power within the #conservatives and #labour between local parties and the central organisation in favour of the latter. This in turn has narrowed their basis of support - not to mention their activist base.

#CostOfLiving is the most important issue for Vote Compass respondents regardless of age, education, birth, sex, and voting intention, but particularly among those under 40”

“Keeping day-to-day living #costs down was the most important issue for electors identified by respondents of a Roy Morgan survey of 14,713 voters in the September quarter of 2024 who were asked to identify their top three issues”

“The second-most important issue for respondents differs by voting intention, with Liberal-Coalition voters concerned with #immigration and the #economy and Labor voters concerned with #ClimateChange.”

“Traditionally safe seats are #flipping around the country, as voters put their hopes and dreams in independent and non-major party candidates.

But it takes more than just hopes and dreams to create a seismic political #shift that flies in the face of decades of voting history.

So what does it take for a #challenger to pose a real threat to a #SafeSeat?”

“Traditionally, #Queensland candidates, whether federal or state, promise to take the fight to #Canberra. They project themselves as defiantly parochial, unashamedly maroon, with a vested interest in the north. More recently, however, #power has shifted from the #regions to the #urban south-east, which is more likely to welcome new #arrivals from other states than Queensland country towns. Amid all this growth, the lines of #responsibility have blurred between federal, state and even local government. Rather than fighting Canberra, the parties – including the Greens, who thrive on street-level combat – have taken to #fighting each other.

At the last election, the #Greens picked up three seats in Greater #Brisbane, riding the winds of change. The #TealMovement was unsuccessful in its first federal foray into Queensland, in the seat of Groom, although Suzie Holt enjoyed a healthy flow of preferences and is running again.

For now, the closest thing Queensland has to #independents are Bob Katter and Gerard Rennick, but the south-east is becoming used to newcomers.”

“A video shared thousands of times on a Chinese (#CCP) #SocialMedia platform claiming a re-elected #Albanese government would adopt “the far-left agenda” of the #Greens and potentially seize vacant homes was created by a member of a #WeChat group campaigning for the Liberal party in a marginal Melbourne seat.

The six-minute video, narrated by a woman who refers to herself as #AuntieGuoer, also claims any minority Albanese government that might rely on the Greens would “crackdown on the #MiddleClass” and lead to the #decline of “traditional #SocialStructures”.”

I see this is happening in the seat of #Aston and past Liberal seat of a political favourite of mine, #TudgyFudge 🤪🤣☺️ Given the subject matter I’d lay a bet this is the work of ex AFP Officer, #SandraBourke and #MatthewSheahan who now has removed all biographic links. Why?

Utter silence from Labour on the assault on Queer lives, and yet they'll still be demanding our vote on May 1st, won't they?

"It's us or Reform" they'll say, but to us Queers, what is the difference. Both of your parties want nothing to do with us, are ashamed of us or only use us as a prop, to be discarded.

The Greens stand with us, the Greens shall have our votes.

”Science is clear. It says we need to stop burning fossil fuels. But Dutton's big donors, like Gina Rinehart, don't want that - it's clear who he's listening to”.
Skip the question if someone "believes" in climate change. Ask if someone *accepts* the evidence-based science or not. It’s not religion.

April 13 “The rightwing #advocacy group #Advance has acknowledged it is paying for election materials attacking the #Greens to be used by third-party groups during the election campaign.

“Advance is working with hundreds of volunteers from dozens of community groups to defeat Greens candidates and we make no apology,” a spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said Advance did not fund groups directly but “we absolutely pay for anti-Greens campaign material to be at the disposal of volunteers”.

“This includes 2m #flyers and thousands of #TShirts and #corflutes. Again, we make *no apologies*.” — #MatthewSheahan

Is this also the work of Advance?

Funny how the city of Sydney gets to have three nude beaches while the alleged “hippy” area of Byron Bay has closed theirs

And the local Greens candidate - a woman, allegedly feminist, Mandy Nolan - is agreeing with the prudes, agreeing with closing our beaches, agreed that LGBTQ folk shouldn’t have access to our historic cultural spaces and has also publicly stated that women should cover up to prevent sexual harassment.

Mad world.
