When you take capital from #Thiel, then only realise a decade later it wasn’t a good idea. At the time when this was announced I thought, “Oh shit #PG, don’t do it”. Then history.

It’s the lure of capital. You get covered in the deeds of these shitty founders (Thiel) and you have to back track, knowing it was blood money.

Uit internationaal vergelijkend onderzoek is gebleken dat Nederland op deze punten nu nog uit de pas loopt. Medewerkers van startups en scale-ups gaan minder belasting betalen over hun aandelenopties. In plaats van het hoge tarief van 49,5% in box 1, betalen ze straks effectief maximaal 32,17%. Ook gaan zij pas belasting betalen als zij hun aandelen verkopen. Op dit moment moet dat al op het moment dat de aandelen verhandelbaar worden. Het voorstel voor deze fiscale regeling wordt nu verder uitgewerkt in een wetsvoorstel. De beoogde ingangsdatum is 1 januari 2027. Ecosysteem voor startups en scale-ups in Nederland Succesvolle startups en scale-ups zijn cruciaal voor een vitale economie. Zij dragen bij aan de innovatiekracht van Nederland, jagen de productiviteitsgroei aan en creëren werkgelegenheid. Ook Intern gebruik dragen veel startups en scale-ups bij aan het oplossen van maatschappelijke uitdagingen, bijvoorbeeld in de gezondheidszorg, en zijn ze cruciaal voor onze economische weerbaarheid.

"The problem is that governments and businesses serve vastly different purposes. If public policymakers start mimicking business founders, they will undermine their own ability to address complex societal challenges.

For startups, the highest priority is rapid iteration, technology-driven disruption, and financial returns for investors. Their success often hinges on solving a narrowly defined problem with a single product, or within a single organization. Governments, by contrast, must tackle complex, interconnected issues like poverty, public health, and national security. Each challenge calls for collaboration across multiple sectors, and careful long-term planning. The idea of securing short-term gains in any of these areas doesn’t even make sense.

Unlike startups, governments are supposed to uphold legal mandates, ensure the provision of essential services, and enforce equal treatment under the law – more important today than ever. Metrics like market share are irrelevant, because the government has no competitors. Rather than trying to “win,” it should focus on expanding opportunities and promoting the diffusion of best practices. It must be long-term minded, while achieving nimble and flexible structures that can adapt."
