The Mysterious Monster March

As another day ends and darkness falls,
worries begin to grow. The monsters realize they
are now far away from their homes and entering
a world that no one has ever been before.

Anxious whispers and tearful sobs burst out.
"Beware! Beware! one monster pleads.
There is danger ahead!" But no one has stopped
for sleep this night. The leaders keep them
marching, marching, towards a distant light.

Still deep within a dense twilight forest, several monsters gather together. Their facial expressions show fear and worry. One large monster dramatically shares his anxiety with a little blue monster, while another has its arm around its back. One graceful monster glances behind itself in alarm, while another buries its face in its hands, teeth chattering in terror.

Monsters have babies too.
Baby monsters are even harder to find than the elusive "baby" pigeon. Very few folks can say that they've seen them, let alone created their portraits. I have been lucky. As you might imagine, monster parents can be a bit protective. Mothers in particular. They consider us (humans) more than a bit strange and potentially dangerous. It took most of my free time, lots of monster "treats" and carefully followed Monster Etiquette to befriend just a few of them. Even then, I felt a bit nervous and on edge as I made sketches of their most beloved offspring. It is always a good idea to remind oneself that monsters are ultimately unpredictable creatures, and should be given proper respect at all times.

Against a brilliant blue sky, with just a hint of mountains in the distance, a teeny baby monster trembles with uncertainty on its mothers scaly leg, grasping her long sharp claw for balance. It nervously stares (at me) with large bulging eyes, while the other hand is clamped firmly in its mouth. Bright scales of chartreuse, vivid orange and crimson red cover the body of this wee creature, accompanied by slender candy-cane-like curved horns atop its bald green head. Gorgeous Monsters & Their Pets
Welcome to my new interview series. I am the official human spokesperson for the Guardian Monster Guild, editor of the "Monster Times & Review" and author of the glamorous tell-all book, "What Monsters Want". These are hard-won credentials that I have worked tirelessly to obtain. As an ordinary human being, entering the realm of Monsterdom requires a rigorous determination, and an ego that can survive all manner of taunts, threats and indignation. Comfortably curled on an antique chair, a strange spiked, blueish creature lounges. Gazing lazily at a its pet, a smaller green creature with feathered pink ruff and tail, it teases with a string attached to a stuffed toy, which is lodged in its pets mouth. What the heck is a Guardian Monster?
I am so glad you asked. Perhaps you've heard of guardian angels -- those lovely, winged beings who guide and protect you? Well, when the job requires a specialized "monster point of view", these eager fellows step up!

GRUMPTINKUS GRIPPER
PERSONALITY: Loyal and protective, she is a proud member of the Elite Guardian Monster Patrol. Once you get past her “challenging” appearance, you will discover a devoted and steadfast friend.

POTENTIAL ISSUES: A well-developed stubborn streak and unnerving growl. She has also, on occasion, displayed moments of extreme grumpiness. This is to be expected and accepted as an inherent part of her nature. Do not be offended or hold this against her. Just leave her alone to grump it out by herself. She will truly appreciate your understanding.

RULES OF ETIQUETTE: Please be aware that she chooses whom she will assist or not. She selects her friends very carefully and will join you only if she considers you worthy. Once again, please do not be offended. She has extremely high standards and most who initially seek her friendship leave disappointed. Simply try again at a later date. (Author’s note: It took me three tries before she finally found me acceptable enough to assist. And we had already been friends for several months!! How’s that for picky!)

Sleepy Monster in a Teacup
Humans aren't the only ones who enjoy a spot of tea now and again. Little monsters have been know to slip quietly into kitchens when no one is around and sneak a sip of two of freshly brewed sweetness. This sleepy creature drank a bit too much sweet jasmine tea and found it hard to stay awake. Shhhhhh...

Never have and never will believe in "#popular #kids". All that is is a #slur against the ones who put effort into #socializing from the ones that don't. I grew up and kept to myself most of the time, but my #friend group had its tentacles in every #clique. If you shared my interests, mainly #videogames and #basketball, I was ready to mingle. I wasn't vindictive or jealous of my peers that had made more connections. That's just sad.

INNER MONSTERS
Inner Monsters don't necessarily look like "real" monsters. They are part of that constant chatter going on in the background of our own minds, shaping our view of the world. They can appear in a variety of forms, from human, animal, monster-like, even as plants! Most of us... ahem... keep our inner beasties tucked "safely" in the closet, hoping they won't decide to reveal themselves at inopportune times, causing all manner of embarrassing moments, like sudden extreme shyness, unexplained crying jags, overwhelming crankiness, or laughing out loud for no apparent reason, among others. Sound familiar?
The solution is (drum roll please...) to MEET your inner monsters, SEEK to understand them, EMBRACE them as yours, and then LEARN about yourself through them. Bring them out of your personal inner-verse and set them free!
