The poem was written by Dorit Tzamaret, a peace activist. It was written about the impact of the death of 11 soldiers from her kibbutz during the October 1973 war had on her.

Her granddaughter, Aya Arbel-Sharif, wrote in reply:

"Binyamin, my grandmother Dorit Tzamaret wrote the poem 'The Wheat Grows Again'. She hated you."
